What Domain Name Registries still allow for an Add Grace Period full refund?
Q. Interested in domain name tasting what companies you go through to get a full refund back within the 5 day add grace period offered.
Asked by bw_soto - Wed Jul 25 19:46:27 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Try www.dynadot.com. They have a "grace deletion period" of five days. If you request a grace delete, they give you a full credit posted to your Dynadot account. The good thing about Dynadot is that there is no minimum purchase required to utilize the grace deletion function. You can use this service with a single registered domain. Hope this helps. Leona.

Domain name system - do I understand it right?
Q. I'm writing an article for my blog about the domain name system I wanted to know if I understand the domain storage system - or do I have it wrong? - When a domain is registered it is added to an international registry - In the registry the domain is assigned to a nameserver. - On the nameserver entries are added (webserver address, mailserver adress, etc.) - Queries to that domain are routed to the nameserver Thanks in advance :) Thanks for the quick answers! One last additional question - where is the international registry stored? Are there special servers?
Asked by Armands P - Mon May 17 10:11:41 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. - When a domain is registered it is added to an international registry Correct. - In the registry the domain is assigned to a nameserver. More the other way around. The nameserver(s) specified by the entity registering the domain are put in the international registry. So if Yahoo added a new domain, say "myyahoo.com" (which they already have), they would tell their registrar (Verisign in this case) that their nameservers are ns1.yahoo.com, ns2.yahoo.com, and so on. - On the nameserver entries are added (webserver address, mailserver adress, etc.) Yes. - Queries to that domain are routed to the nameserver Yes. To answer your latest question: The registries are stored in different places depending on which domain we're talking about ( [cont.]

Where can I find Recent Domain Name sales listings?
Q. Hi, I am looking for some sort of Domain Registry or something from where I can get a complete list of recent domain sales. Please dont ask me to check dnjournal.com. I want to goto the top source from where websites like dnjournal.com or dnwire.com or other sites are getting listings of recent domain sales. Come on, this is a challenge, I have invested around 2 days trying to search such a listing.
Asked by adlinkex - Sat Jul 7 13:58:45 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hello, The answer to your question is that you simply cannot find a comprehensive list of all "recently sold" domains. This is because you can sell a domain privately, and push them to other people's accounts. This does not show up on popular domain selling sites. Also, each registrar will maintain the information for that domain. Or, the site the domain name was sold on (if it was sold on a domain selling site at all) would have this information exclusively. So, again, there is no comprehensive list of all domain names sold.

Domain name registration, SEO, Affiliates, and more...?
Q. Does any one have any ideas about setting up a domain name registry, sources of info, resources, and any other related particulars?? I'm looking to start a domain site, either as a registrar (direct) or as an affiliate (third party). Which affiliates are you familiar with, and how has their service been? What technical difficulties have you encountered? What experiences have you had with a registration site, and what would you like to see as part of the service? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

A. Yes, sourcing expired domain names with good page rank can bring him immediate traffic to your site. However, choosing a good domain name requires some tactic. A good domain name should be short and interesting. In this way, it will be easily remembered by the community. Secondly, your domain name should briefly tell the community what your content of your website is. For example. www.money.com has a wonderful domain name and it tells people of what the content in the website is by just looking at it..

Name Preferences for Website?
Q. I'm helping a friend develop a website relating to event-planning. He's been able to secure the following domain names, but can't decide which one to use. Please provide your preference on the following names: - off-the-registry.com - festalicious.com - monfete.com Thanks!
Asked by AmarRavi - Mon Dec 15 02:52:25 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'd go with monfete.com Festalicious.com sounds silly and goofy - not exactly what he wants to portray himself and his business as. Off-the-registry.com just doesn't say anything about the business, so it's not a good idea.

how can i understand the exact expire date of my Domain name?
Q. can i be sure that at this date my domain will expire? in whois.com this text was displayed: NOTICE: The expiration date displayed in this record is the date the registrar's sponsorship of the domain name registration in the registry is currently set to expire. This date does not necessarily reflect the expiration date of the domain name registrant's agreement with the sponsoring registrar. Users may consult the sponsoring registrar's Whois database to view the registrar's reported date of expiration for this registration.
Asked by pieceof_iron - Sun Jul 9 04:24:19 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well it means that they(whois) get an expire date from the provider, but it can change. if the day of expire comes they still can extend it.

Q. I want to purcahse a domain name but it is already in use. There is nothing on the website though. It re directs you to some other site so techinally, you can't even pull up the domain I want to buy. The website it re-directs you too, also has nothing on it. I checked under WhoIs but it's registered privately under www.domainsbyproxy.com. So I can't get any contact information. The website it brings you too hasn't been updated since 2007 same with the website I am interested in buying. I found out it will expire in Jan 2009. How can I go about getting it? Also.. I found this on it's registered host godaddy.com . Not sure what it means.. Registry Status: clientDeleteProhibited Registry Status: clientRenewProhibited Registry Status:… [cont.]

A. Most likely the domain name you are looking for is owned by a domain squatter and there is no immediate way for you to buy that name. What you can do is wait until the expiry time and check again to see whether the domain name is renewed. If the domain is not renewed for a length of time after expiration, that domain goes back into the available pool.

A. If it is a good name, you are going to have a very difficult time registering it when it expires. (usually 60 days after expiration date it can be registered again). Too many people make a living by purchasing expired domain names. Your best bet would probably be to go to godaddy.com and see about buying it using their "Use a Domain Buy Agent to get this name" service.

A. Yahoo is known to be quick... I rather go with Yahoo, since it is spam free and it is a name you can trust. They have cheap prices as well. And yes the domain you buy from a provider is yours. But if you buy a package like a host + domain is free, the company can find a way to steal that from you. So buy the domain separated.. and Then buy the host. But for Yahoo, if you buy something it is yours 101%... Unless you do illegal stuff, USA will bound to take it. So your under USA laws. If your afraid of that buy it from europe.

How can I add my Windows Media Center to a domain without re-installing?
Q. I would like to add my Windows Media Center to my domain without having to reinstall. I went to the System Properties and the "Network ID" button is disabled, and when I click to change the name the Domain radio button is disabled allowing me to only change the Workgroup Name. I checked online and the only solutions I found was to reinstall and specify to work on a domain. Please help me to add even if it is with a hack on the registry, I don't want to reinstall.
Asked by MrLobito - Mon Jan 22 13:28:47 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. While is probably not the answer you're looking for, Microsoft designed Windows Media Center specifically for home use, which means that, like Windows XP Home edition, it has had the ability to join a domain removed. While you'll still be able to access network shares (using a domain username and password) you will not be able to use domain network log-ins or roaming profiles. For full Windows Domain support you'll either have to upgrade to Windows XP Professional or downgrade to Windows 2000.

A. All possible two and three letter domain names were taken long ago. Entrepeneurs registered every possible combination in the hopes of being able to sell the names for big bucks.

Domain renewal and transfer?
Q. Hi. I just got a notice from Yahoo on renewal my domain names. THey are increasing the renewal fee from 9.95 to a whopping 34.95. So I want to cancel with them and move them to another domain registrar like Godady or something. My question is, do i just let my domain names expire and then register them with Godady? Do I not run the danger of someone else registering the names in the time between their expiry and when I re-register them? Is there a sure way of moving them to a new domain registry service with risking loosing them? Thank for your advise.

A. If you're fine with a blunt answer, you'll be hardpressed to find a reputable provider "that will be in business next year". There are 2 realities here: 1. The registrar you're using could go bankrupt (which so far I've found only like 3 cases for the past 7 years), or: 2. The registrar you're using could be acquired by another (which has been going on for the past 2 years). Next best thing is to go with one who's been around for years and will likely be around for years to come. And manage your expectations accordingly.
