A. To send an email just click on "New". Left of screen next to "check mail". Type in the address or click "To" to bring up your address book, if you have one saved. Your outgoing mail does not have a From field. I hope this helps.

How do you send mail when you have a mail slot in your door?
Q. I don't have a mailbox, only a mail slot, and I have no idea how I'm supposed to send mail. I've tried sticking my mail in the slot, but the mail lady never picks it up, and I always find my outgoing mail on the floor with my incoming mail. Anyone know what I should do? I obviously know that taking it to the Post Office is a way to mail it, but I'm trying to find another solution since the post office is out of my way going to school/work.

A. Lyds, they have an extremely short shelf life, about 48 hours chilled, far less if exposed to heat--which they would be. Sorry to say your lovely idea probably won't work. You might be able to contact a local candy store where she lives and have some delivered. Maybe you could bake her something instead? (I'd love it if either of my kids bakes cookies for Mother's Day.)

How can we get our mail delivered?
Q. The building management will not keep the door buzzers working properly in my apartment building. None of the tenants have received mail in over a week because the mail carriers can't get access to the building. This is not the first time this has happened over the past year. The Post Office told us that we have to get on management about this, but we've called and nothing gets done. It does not appear that management provides keys for the mail carriers to have access. Meanwhile, tenants aren't getting their bills, subscriptions, medications, etc. Can we take any legal action about this?

A. If you know the correct amount of postage you can mail them from your house. If you don't know, take them to the PO and have them tell you the correct amount.

How do I search my Contacts in Yahoo mail for an email address?
Q. The seach bar in Yahoo Mail Contacts no longer works for searching for an e-mail address. It used to work before the latest site enhancements to Yahoo mail. I can search for names and get results, but not addresses. When I type in an e-mail address in the search field, nothing happens. I could really use this feature for removing/correcting e-mail addresses that are no longer valid from my Contacts. Hope someone can help!

A. Click on "Contacts", and your "new, redesigned, enhanced", teeny contact list, which they crammed into the bottom left corner, opens. To "search" by addresses---you have to choose "sort by email address" (in the contact list). Then you should be able to use the "search field". If not---click on the contact's name (not in the box)---then in the right side screen, click on Edit, and scroll through their info box to the address. If you need to edit it---save the changes. If you need to remove it---click on the contact and hit the trash can (right side).

What type of mail is considered certified?
Q. I just posted a question about the mailman stopping by and hand delivering a letter. I was in a towel and could not answer at the moment but when he was leaving I saw him carrying a letter. Pretty much all of the responses said that it was some type of certified mail. Which leads me to my next question, what type of mail is certified? Sorry, I know this is a dumb question but I'm a natural worrier.

A. Any piece of mail that needs official documentation that it has been received by the addressee. It could be anything from a check, a late notice or official documents from a lawyer (such as a divorce decree). In other words, it just shows that you received it and signed that you received it.

Where can I find a mail drop/receptacle for my mail slot on door?
Q. I am moving into a new apt on June 1st and I have my mail delivered right at my door thru the mail slot on the front door. However, I would like to get a mail drop box that I can attach to the mail slot so the mail goes right into that. Plus, I'd like it for privacy reasons as well so that if someone (for some odd reason) flips open the slot, all they see is the inside of the box. Anywhere in Toronto I can find something like that? Thanks!

Asked by Joseph - Thu Feb 17 23:35:26 2011 - Other - Yahoo! Mail - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Here's one thing you can do... 1.) Forward your mail from your domain to your Yahoo address. You can usually do this within your hosting/domain management account. 2.) In Yahoo mail go to Options > Accounts > Add Account, and create a new alias (my word) with which you can send email from Yahoo and have it appear to come from your domain. Yahoo will ask you to confirm you have access to the mailbox. That way you can use your domain name for both sending and receiving, and do it all from your regular Yahoo email.

US Mail question! How much would it cost to mail small sheets of paper that cannot be folded?
Q. I've got a lot of scrapbook supplies like sticker sheets and punch out letter sheets. They cannot be folded and won't fit in a regular letter envelope. I will be adding two slim sheets of card board to protect them. So through what method is cheapest to mail something as thick as a single single of paper in between two small sheets of cardboard, and how much would it cost to send from Maryland to California? What about from Maryland to Canada? 10pts immediately to the first straight-foward, correct answer! Thanks!

A. You'll need to get a bigger envelope, either at the Post Office or at Staples or some other office supply store. How much it costs to mail will depend on what the full envelope weighs. You can estimate the shipping costs right there at the Post Office Web site: US: Canada:

Is there a way to make Google Mail start-up rather than Microsoft outlook to send my e-mail letters?
Q. Hello Yahoo Ask users, When I click on a Craigslist e-mail address, Microsoft Outlook opens up and I can compose my e-mail. Rather than Microsoft outlook, can I use Google Mail instead? If so, how can I configure Google Mail to open up and be ready to compose a e-mail when I click on a e-mail link? Thank you.

A. You have to configure your Google Mail account in Microsoft Outlook, so that when Microsoft Outlook opens it is actually using your Google Mail. In Outlook, go to Tools > Email Accounts > Add a new Email Account > POP3 > enter the following information in the set up wizard: # Google GMail Settings The Google GMail service offers email client access for retrieving and sending emails through your Gmail account. However, for security reasons, GMail uses POP3 over an SSL connection, so make sure your email client supports encrypted SSL connections.
